About Creative Dance Center
Creative Dance for Children, started by Ramona Batchelder in 1983 developed into a nationwide dance movement program offered in child care centers in various regions. Ramona opened the first Creative Dance Center studio in 1986 in Chantilly as a home office for the movement program.
Over the years the studio has developed its unique diversified programming, hiring professional teachers for each subject and level. The Chantilly studio has grown to 10,500 square feet, becoming Northern Virginia’s largest professional dance instruction facility. With five spacious raised dance floors, the most recent production room, Studio 6, boasts 1,800 square feet of dance space. In 2002 the second location was built in old Ashburn. After four years the two room studio could no longer accommodate the growing enrollment. In 2006 a new state of the art Ashburn studio was built with viewing windows in each dance room and a designer birthday party room.
Though the facilities are certainly much to be proud of, it is the staff and programming that set Creative Dance Center apart. From the beginning, CDC hired teachers who specialize in each dance style and are placed in classes with the age range and level they are most able to teach effectively. Teachers have stayed at Creative Dance Center for many years because they enjoy the teaching environment.
Programs are available at CDC for every level of interest. Coming fall 2007 (Chantilly only) will be “Studio 5,” an after school dance program with van pick up. For those wanting enrichment for their preschoolers and a break for moms, the Music, Movement and Learning for ages 3 and 4 is a fabulous, well developed program offered at both locations.
There are various performance opportunities at all levels:
- the annual staged recital for all dancers five and older,
- the in house themed show with costumes for ages three and four,
- the award winning CDC Competition Team for ages 5-18,
- the All Stars Dance Team for teens, and
- the Nutcracker in a Shell All Jazzed Up.
